No I've just been training because I know first gym leader usually has pokemon lvl 9-14 and my piplup will probably be the only one that can fight.

Just fight it... if you lose, then train and try again. Spending forever at the first gym in any pokemon game is just plain annoying. Save beforehand so you don't need to worry about losing money.

No I still want my pokemon to be equal leve before I advance...(10 is fine for anyone besides piplup)
