Wow there's so much I could say in that thread, but I know all I'll get is flames from PSP fanboys that think the fact that the DS doesn't have PSP graphics or an analog stick makes it 50 times worse than the PSP even with the many defects, so I won't bother. Instead I'll post my comments here where they're accepted by the DS community.
IMO the touch screen is way better than a stick cause it's pretty good at emulating analog as well as a limitless number of other possibilities, you can't say that about the PSP's analog stick. I'm also a PC gamer, and a touch screen is a lot closer to mouse control than an analog stick, I played some Halo on a friends Xbox and got owned cause the analog stick doesn't feel natural while that friend played it all day. I respect console gamers, but it's not easy to respect the ones that think consoles are better than PC, PC owns consoles in just about every aspect except maybe price/performance.
I find it funny that they think you hate the DS and all you can do to feel better is to hate the PSP, they think DS is worthless and only appeals to kids, they're obviously mistaken. Many of them never tried a DS and most of them don't own one, so they don't have a clue what they're missing out on, and those that do own the DS hated it from the beginning and just had the money to spare while they wait for the PSP. Something as sophisticated as the DS takes time to get used to, and I bet none of those flamers spent that required time, store demos aren't the way to go to find out if you can get used to it.
About the last post from the moderator, what's worse, a slightly poor quality screen or a highly vulnerable/breakable screen? Hard to get used to? Read above. In many cases, something that's hard to get used to is also something with a lot of functions allowing for better games.
While graphics aren't everything of coarse, it can't be ignored. So, look at the GBA... It's graphics were crap on average and then came some FPS games (and the BlueRoses 3D engine which is a dream come true for the GBA), some with amazing quality for such a low power system, a huge jump in its lifetime. I see the same thing happening with the DS in its lifetime, we could see near Gamecube quality graphics after a couple years as better 3D engines are produced, not to mention the load of DS features yet to be used.
As for problems with the DS, there are some, but not nearly as many and not as annoying as the PSP. The most annoying DS problem for me is that the sound quality can get really bad at low volumes, I expect that has already been fixed in recent revisions. Other people complain about dead pixels, although it's just as likely on the PSP. It even seems to be more serious on the PSP with 3 dead pixels while the DS usually only has 1 dead pixel. The PSP has about 130% the pixels of DS yet gets 300% the dead pixels. The only announcement Sony made about the PSP after its launch was about how all the stores are sold out and how they're sorry that they can't produce them any faster until international release. They won't replace faulty PSPs, while Nintendo made an immediate announcement about the dead pixel problem and will replace them free of charge, making it clear than Nintendo cares more about the customer and Sony cares more about their ability to make money.
I think I'll stop here before I waste any more time writing all this in the slightly wrong thread (er that's what I'm feeling right now).
