Really. Name an older one. It is definately an RTS, and I'm confident it's the first. I've played it, it's RTS through and through. I read a story about how it was made, pure genius. I think Dune was more important to the beginning of RTS games than Warcraft by far. Sure it was more popular, but Dune made it what it was to begin with. SimCity wasn't a military game either.

Also, since Westwood made Dune, I retract my previous statement.

Never heard of it. You sure that's an RTS? I have a hard time believing that the first RTS if I've never heard of it... ever... Like Bignads said, I mean a real modern rts like Starcraft, because otherwise SimCity is an RTS too... except for the time pausing.

As for people who say they own both... I own c&c, c&c red alert, red alert 2, c&c tiberium sun, dune 2000, and dune emperors including the recent game that wasnt developed entirely by westwood c&c generals... on that note i also have bladerunner and land of lores 3 and c&c renegade. I own starcraft, broodwar, warcraft 2 battlechest, wasnt that impressed with warcraft 3 and own diablo 2 and exp. I can proudly say that the c&c series is way better than starcraft
