What are the odds that you walk up to a stranger (of whom you can assume plays video games at all) that they will know what Advance Wars or Age of Empires, possibly even Katamari Damacy is? Now, things may be different where you are from, but based on my experiences, I don't consider those real "mainstream games". The only ones that are include Splinter Cell, and Mario Kart. You guys are completely avoiding the point that I am trying to make here. Regional differences may factor in some purchasing decisions as well. I've asked at least 20 people, who are casual PS2 gamers, if they've had a chance to play Katamari Damacy. They gave me that "WTF?" look. Age of Empires isn't exactly mainstream among console gamers. Advance Wars isn't exactly mainstream to console gamers either.

In saying mainstream, I am really speaking of the casual gamer's first choice of games. I'm not personally saying that I do not enjoy the games you guys have listed (where in the world did this notion come from?). As always, people have different tastes. True gamers will definitely enjoy the games on the DS' lineup, however, this leaves the casual gamer in a bind. More often than not, the casual gamer will dismiss the otherwise wonderful games because of his/her unfamiliarity with them. People can readily associate a product bearing the name "PlayStation" with having mainstream titles, thereby drawing in the casual gamers.

It's like you guys refuse to even acknowledge any sort of point I try to bring up. :?

Those are mainstream games. You are confusing some things here. The kind of people (assuming they play games at all) that wouldn't know any of those series would be the dreaded for its stupidity, "Casual Gamer".

That's the point I was bringing across. Mainstream is associated with casual gamer. You deserve a prize.

As for PSP, Devil May Cry will be on show at E3
i know more people that that have played advance wars than devil may cry. and if thats the only game you can give me coming out after GT4, then why aren't you seeing this game drought.

BloodRaye, Need For Speed, Madden, The Godfather. Coded Arms is a FPS, so it's bound to garner some attention as well.
alright number one, the Godfather (the game) is defintely not mainstream. most casual gamers have no idea that its even a game. Need for Speed is also for the DS. Coded Arms is not very mainstream either, especially when compared to metroid or super mario bros. i'll give you Bloodrayne though.

touch screen on revolution

Well, you can't argue that for namesake, The Godfather name is mainstream. And when it really comes down to it, casual gamers are going to pick the better looking version of Need For Speed (even if the gameplay is completely different).

dude you have some strange people around where you live. almost everyone around here has at least HEARD of katamari damacy. (most people don't know the name, but if you tell them its the game where you roll around a ball and pick everything up, they know what you are talking about)

if you are a PC gamer and you haven't heard of or played Age of Empires, something is definetely wrong with you. everyone who has a GBA has also heard of or played advance wars, and if someone actually hasn't, then they must be a VERY casual gamer, like maybe play the GBA once every 3-4 months.

RE: One reason why its better in the UK

If only games that the casual gamers knew were called "Mainstream", then the gaming industry would be a shadow of its self. In my experience, the casual gamer is the biggest candidate for a sony fanboy. Both are often reffered to as scum of the earth. As for need for speed, that's my point exactly. Who wants to play it on the PSP when it's the same game except smaller and slower with fewer features. At least on the DS you have choices, more customizability, and originality.

And as for this:
"It's like you guys refuse to even acknowledge any sort of point I try to bring up. Confused", we are making valid counterarguments with good points.

Well, the people I know are from a different age group I guess. I personally love Age of Empires, but outside of the PC gaming world, it isn't very much known (which is unfortunate). Then again, the people I know to be casual gamers don't have GBAs. This is Texas, mind you. Katamari Damacy might as well be some sort of weird oriental dish to casual gamers. :P

Aww, you had to break up the debate. I was enjoying it, winning or not.

RE: One reason why its better in the UK

This is why we really need a debate forum. It's nice to compare/contrast our different viewpoints. BTW: I didn't intentionally break up the debate, I was replying to Mormon's post and you managed to slip one in before I posted. I wonder what x999x has to say about all this.
