Re: RE: Wow... it

250$ + 50 or so for extra battery (which i think we are all gonna have to have) = 300$... then to buy 1 or 2 launch games would add about another 80-100$. So 400$ for the PSP at launch! Yikes... ill wait till next fall/winter season when its a half year old to maybe get a cheaper one and some used versions of the games. All i can say is HOLY CRAP!

Yeah, but you can spend $200-300 on an IPOD that doesn't play games or movies, so the price is right!

I was thinking about buying the PSP, but that price is outragous. They need to drop the price.

You have to consider, though, that it is for the value pack. Now, if it was for the system by itself, then that would be completely ridiculous. But, they are giving you extras in order to make that $50 extra more worthwhile (Besides, I needed an extra DUO stick for gamesaves and pictures).

With an iPod Mini you get 4 gigs of space for your MP3s. If you want 4 gigs of space on your PSP you need to spend another $900.

$249 for 4gb iPod Mini or $1,149 for a 4GB PSP?

I think I'll take the one that costs $900 less and has 2-3 times more battery life.

RE: Lkr721993

249 is not a bad price for what the PSP can do. It's still not as savvy as a PocketPC when it comes to bells and whistles, but then again, the good pocketPC's start at 399.

The reason I liken it to a PocketPC, besides it's pricepoint, is because it offers it's users more than just games, rather, it's more of a multimedia companion, very much like the new PocketPCs.

In that respect, there's one fatal flaw with the PSP in order to truly take advantage of all it has to offer, and that's it's storage medium, Sony Memory Sticks. These things are really expensive, don't offer as much storage as SD, and are limited to just being used in Sony products.

It's going to cost you an additional 150 dollars for enough storage to encode your own movies. Not a biggie if you've got lots of sony products already, like a Clie or Cybershot, but for the rest of us who have unified our portable storage mediums to CF or SD, the PSP is just going to become a money pit.

Re: RE: My DS hardware test results

I think they are aiming the PSP at adults because adults own credit cards and credit cards can go into debt. The pack mentioned does raise my eyebrow though. To me it sounds like a pretty good deal.

I have a job and plenty of money to buy both the DS and PSP but im only buying the DS. Simply because it offers a better, unique experience. Sure the PSP is good but does it really offer anything unique that we cant do on our home systems? (DVD player, TV, Gamecube, Ps2, Xbox)
