The new "swaploit" has been released to the public allowing the running of homebrew on the PSP. It does take a bit of set-up, but once you have it, you can run all kinds of apps (emulators too). I myself have been toying around with the NES emulator. Here's some proof of it in working action:

(That's Super Mario Bros. 3)

Surprisingly, it works very well. The "swaploit" requires the use of two Memory Sticks. I just used my 32MB and my 512MB. The smaller card acts as the loader, while the larger cards holds all the programs/games that you have.

For more details on how to set it all up, be sure to download the swaploit at http://www.only4.info/psp-dev (they've set up additional mirrors too, seing as how the site's gained so much traffic already). For instructions on how to accomplish using homebrew apps on your PSP, read the included PDF, or go to PSP hacker (http://www.psphacker.com) and read up on all of their info. The most useful section of the site concerning this exploit is in this thread on their forums (you must first register):

http://www.psphacker.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1021

That should answer most of your questions. Now excuse me while I go enjoy playing my old NES games. :P

Woah, the reflection on your psp makes the game look like it's projected... o_O;

Anyways, damn, I wish I had my second memory card. My sister lost it due to her stupidity.

btw, did you notice that all PS consoles required swap for homebrew. All good though. =)

Yes, which is quite funny. I've done a bit of swappin' with my older PS consoles myself (Piracy = Bad .... <_<). I may record a video later on for further proof.

RE: It

Things like this make me want to get a PSP...

I take it the games can only be stored on the 'memory sticks', you can't put them on UMD's (if that's at all possible, not fantastic with computers), no?

Yes, the only way to store these games is on a Memory Stick. Most of the games aren't more than maybe 2MB at most (SMB3 was less than 1MB). Of course, a second MSDuo is required as well.

Seph, I haven't yet tried SNES. I will soon, though, and post more pics just to get everyone talking (would probably make x999x happy.... :P).

Caution: I read that there have been cases that the memory swap technique can damage your memory card or even your PSP. Use with at your own risk...

DSdude, could you make a pic of Fire Emblem playing on a PSP just to p1ss (wtf? It changes to wee) off Mormom? thanks =)

Well that blows. If you can emulate GBA on it, then nintendo has some suing to do. Anyway, the only guy I knew with a PSONE had only bought two games. He had a library of over 50 ripped ones.
