Funnies from Sony TGS Keynote (ROTFLMFAO)

6:49: The keyword for Sony is innovation. Without innovation, the industry won't move forward. Kutaragi believes creativity should be the basis of the computer industry.

Kutaragi feels that networking is not at the point where it needs to be. Servers haven't reached the internal bus speed of the first generation PlayStation. They don't have sufficient power to carry out the computations at the level of the PlayStation 2.

In ten years, it's possible that something like the PlayStation 3 will be overkill because servers will be so powerful.

7:04: He says Sony will take the initiative to lead the next 10 years of gaming. He expects the PS3 to play an important part in the movement. "I feel very pleased to be involed with the PlayStation 3."

7:22: A question on why HDMI only is in the high level version of the PS3 only. Kutaragi explains that sony was worried that if they put the HDMI in the lower version, some would complain about having to pay for something they don't want. However, HDMI penetration has come faster than expected. He then asks people if they want HDMI in all models. Everyone in the audience says yes. He then confirms that all models, including the 20 gig version, will have an HDMI port.

That sounds like he took it straight from Nintendo and swapped out the names and switched "gaming" with "computer".

He can't be serious, servers are some of the most powerful systems around, about the same as top-of-the-line gaming systems except with a lot more memory and hard drive space and sometimes multiple CPU's. I guess he was referring to Sony's own servers that they use for their PS2 network.

Of course they'll take the initiative, but either they'll fail miserably or they'll manage to lie and cheat their way to success. He's probably only pleased to be involved because Sony is filthy rich and gives him a crap load of money.

Pwned! That shows how little Sony really knows about their customers, and for a change they actually decided to listen to what they want. I bet the price of the cheap package will be bumped up $50 now.

So... Sony has lost the ability to count? Also, their ultimate goal is to work BACKWARDS?

According to Jacky Boy here, the DS trails behind the Gizmondo and related. Methinks someone has taken some of Kuturagi's stashed hash.

Is it just me or has Sony's plan turned into telling everyone what Nintendo should be saying (names swapped of course)? They've seriously gone insane and if that's their last hope then they're definitely screwed.

Autocon is an unknown quantity at this point
Not sure where to post this, so I put it here.
This is from http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,2019328,00.asp

Sony, which will launch the latest version of its blockbuster game gear on Nov. 11 in Japan, now plans to sell a version of PS3 with a 20-gigabyte (GB) hard disk drive for 49,980 yen ($430), down from the previously announced 62,790 yen ($540).
...
If Sony had left its previous price unchanged, game players in Japan would have nearly been able to buy both the Xbox 360 and Wii for the price of one PS3.
The decision, however, created investor doubts over the consistency of the company's market strategy and the validity of its market research, said Masaki Iso, chief investment officer at Yasuda Asset Management.
"Sentiment might change if the product sold well as a result of this. But it is still received negatively because the company changed its mind after comparing its price with others."
Seems the marketing crew at Sony can't make up their mind and insist on following the lead of the other big console manufacturers...
