Not only that, but Sony's toted features a year ago have dropped drastically, especially if you don't buy the $600 model.
i thought it was only for 600... how much is the 20GB version worth?

so obviously not many people are gonna buy that one... it kinda makes your only option the 600 choice.

with 600 you could get a wii & a xbox 360 (assuming wii is 200 or less, which is more than likely)

o and blue ray can hold more data on one layer but they are finding it hard to make more then 2 layers on the blue ray while on hd-dvd they are able to add more layer to burn on so it will have more capasity anyway as last i heard they were up to 10 layers for hd-dvd but were strugerling to get 4 layer on blue ray as it dident work half the time... so if you look at it that way it only has an early advantage in capasity... untill they start to release more layers on hd-dvd which they will start to do eventualy

Wow, 10 layers on HD-DVD is a lot, which I'm guessing is in the 50GB-100GB range.

Hehe, it makes that early rumor that Oblivion would be on 5-8 HD-DVDs even more preposterous. Heck, the 360 never even came with an HD-DVD player.

i think but will need to cheack that you can get 25gb per layer on blue ray ware you can get 15gb per layer on hd-dvd and the ps3 will be fitted with a reader that can only read 2 layers of blue ray...

o and when it comes to the storage capasity need for games is nnot as much as you think i mean yes they are getting bigger but all they have to do is find ways of compactiong them more like for pc data the simpalist one is win zip to compress files but there are lots out there that will reduce the file size alot more and the console we have are very good at extrecting and using the data right away insted of putting it in the ram... which the gc could do as it disk can only hold about 2gb abit less i think but there are many huge games that run on it etc.. this is beacuse it has been desiged so it can run data right from the disk this was implemented in one of the lauch games (forget the name but that star wars one)

Hahah! So, sony is REALLY going to screw you over if you don't pay up for the $600 version! Get this: NO WIRELESS CONTROLLERS, AND NO WAY TO UPGRADE THAT OR THE HARD DRIVE! It's more than that though. They're even taking off the chrome lettering from the cheaper version. How gay.

Saturday 13 May 2006
Sony has today cleared up the confusion over the differences in specification between the two models of PlayStation 3 - and the cheaper version won't support wireless controllers.

As announced by the company on Monday, two versions of PS3 will be available at launch - one with a 60GB hard drive, and a less pricy model that features a 20GB hard drive. However, what the company didn't mention at the time is that the 20GB machine also lacks a number of key features that are included as standard in the more expensive model.

The 20GB console won't include an HDMI output, which means that it won't be able to deliver high definition pictures. But perhaps more disappointing is that wireless bluetooth controllers won't be supported; instead, gamers will have to make do with retro-style wired-up versions of the increasingly controversial PS3 pad.

Above: The 60GB version of PlayStation 3 - shown here on the left - is identifiable by its chrome lettering

In addition, the lower-end model also lacks WiFi and the slot for Memory Stick Duo cards included in the full-spec PS3.

A Sony representative on the show floor at E3 also emphasized that gamers won't be able to upgrade the memory of the 20GB version; if that's the PS3 incarnation you opt for, you're permanently stuck with a 20GB memory limit.

Amazingly, Sony big boss man Phil Harrison, in a BBC interview earlier this week, insisted, "What we should be clear about is that the functionality is identical in both machines. There is no difference in what the machine does."

Unfortunately, the actual facts seem to suggest otherwise.
