PS3 Blue-Ray Drives $100 EACH!

That's right, the PS3's blue-ray disk drives have been estimated to run them at the very least $100 each. That's an extremely large chunk of money for such a simple part of the console. This is rediculous. With this, the cell processor, and the supposedly incredibly expensive graphics technology, how in the world will they market this without going bankrupt?

Also, oddly enough, the rather mature geek crowd of slashdot also seem to side with Nintendo on... pretty much everything.

well you do know that most people say that sony will not make any money for each ps3 sold untill they realease the small version

The thing is, people will almost certainly lap up the PS3 unless it is ridiculously overpriced (ie, maybe over $1000.)

People pay for apparant "quality" (which Sony certainly aren't, but do have addictive games).

Sony do make great desgined products that last well. Sony pretty much have endless pockets so i dont think it will bother them till the second year, then they start worrying.

Man, they never make a good first launch. Just once I'd like to see them make a first launch with no disk errors (ie, shooting disks, unreadable disks), factory defects (unusable buttons thanks to horrible molding), or other things caused by low quality components. Then again, that wouldn't be sony's style. You can bet the Blue-Ray, being new technology, will be full of problems more than usual.

Of course, I had a cousin who went through 10 Sony WEGA TV's before he got one that worked.

To be fair, I had to replace one of my GameCubes because of a disk reading error. Of course, I had it for over a year before that, and they were very quick about it.
