Daxter could be good, and tales might, though theres a new tales coming for EVERY portable system. As for Daxter, it would have to be rediculously good have any effect on the sales of the system if people are looking for games...

I like my psp, while it doesnt offer the more "hard hitting" games then my ds, the psp has more 'niché' games, i.e FIFA 06 i play constantly, as i do Burnout Legends and Virtua Tennis. Im looking to get Smackdown vs Raw and SOCOM this weekend.

Unless im mistaken 'niche' means something that applies to a certain group/small crowd. The majority of DS games appeal to anyone really, once they play them, they love them, nintendo has even said they make games for everyone.

One of the main anti-DS arguments I heard was that it was for niche-gamers. The PSP is supposedly the the "casual" one.

To be honest, to be able to call a handheld "casual" and "hardcore" is quite a thing. Because if you look at it, DS has alot of user friendly games, mario kart, nintendogs a big one, wario ware, animal crossing to name a few, that gamers can dip in and out of and play at they're own will without a big learning curve nor spending too much time learning.

Most PSP games have a certain learning curve to them other then lumines, and alot of psp games require you to be already good at that genre to be able to suceed in the psp version.
Any way, im out, see yall tomorrow.

daxter looks kinda gay honestly

and theres tales of phantasia coming on teh GBA, and im willing to bet its waaaay better than eternia. phantasia was a classic >_>

and bignds wtf are you smoking my friend? with great graphics and all the mainstream games on it, how does the PSP not appeal to casual gamers? most DS games are not exactly mainstream. take advance wars, for instance. i knew like 10 people who considered themselves "hardcore" gamers, and 3 had played advance wars

"Hardcore" could typically mean that they are only good at one game because it's all they play to truely master it and become the king of their domain/server.

That said, your friends prolly rule at games like CounterStrike and such, so why would they have even heard of something like Advanced Wars on the DS if their busy being hardcore at something else?

Does that mean the DS and AW do little to represent an alternative mainstream channel for gaming because 3 out of 10 hardcore gamers don't know what AW was?

Nope, it doesn't.

Mainstream gaming is simply the notion that I can go into any brick and mortar and pick up a game for my DS, through a mainstream distribution channel.

I think it's a little easy to misconstrue industry terminology.

My personal opinion is that DS is for the hardcore gamers, PSP is for the casual. Simply because casual, to me, means what's popular with the masses, and the PSP is that. If you want very good games but not quite the same image, the DS is the system for you. I would be a hundred times cooler if I brought my PSP into school than if I bought my DS. Seriously.

People have brought both to my school. Neither really has favor at our school. There's really two types of people in our school regarding this situation: those that don't care about video games, and those that fiercly contest it.
