Re: RE: Possible Nwizard.com Nintendo Podcast

Note: I haven't touched a PSP. I happen to be allergic to Sony products, and I'm pretty sure if I touched a PSP my flesh would burn. This post is not really about MY opinion, but about other people's who have actually owned and spent time with a PSP. I will warn you though, I've read it over and my fanboyishness can certainly show at times. I wouldn't recommend Flamers to read this post.

That said, I just wanted to share some of my PSP-related experiences.

Episode #1: The fanboy who just can't let go
So I'm in GameStop as I often am (my two favorite things in life both reside in that building, Nintendo games and my girlfriend, who works there). I'm checking something out when one of the guys comes out of the backroom, looks behind the cabinet and goes, "Ahhh! Where'd my PSP go?!?" The manager tells him she put in the drawer so no one would steal it. He sighs relief. I mutter to myself "like anyone would wanna steal that piece of crap...". "What'd you say?!?" the PSP-boy exclaims. "Sorry, I'm not a big fan of the PSP." "Dude, it's the most kick-ass thing ever!" "Really? Well, what games do you have?" "Well, I've got a bunch of UMD movies, and I read manga on it, and I play a lot of emulated games." "Wait, so you paid $250 so you could read comic books and play decade-old games on the go? Yeah, wow, that really kicks-ass...[sarcasm]" He shut up...

Episode #2: My roomate
So, my roomate is a big gamer. He's not a fanboy of any kind, he just plays games he likes. He has all 3 consoles, a GBA, and a PSP. I asked him about his PSP, why he bought it and all that. I noticed he hadn't played it once since we moved in together, and he never took it with him anywhere. I on the other hand have my Ipod Mini and DS with me EVERYWHERE. He said he really bought it due to a misprint that said it had 1.8 gigs of memory for stuff like music. He says he regrets spending all that money, and he's debating whether or not to return it. I asked him what the last game he played on it was. lol, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time"

Episode #3: My Girlfriend (Ahhhhhhh!)
Yeah, this was embarassing. The girlfriend of the "Nintendo Master" having a PSP. It hurt me in ways I couldn't imagine, and I kept telling myself it was a cruel joke. I had these visions that the whole video game world was laughing at me, how the self-proclaimed "Nintendo Master" couldn't even convince his girlfriend from getting a PSP. It was like Sony had actually beaten me.
Now, you have to understand, I love my girlfriend more than anything else in the world, even Nintendo (but the big-N is a REALLY close 2nd, but don't tell her that). She has a PS2 (had it before we started dating), and I don't care. She only has it for Final Fantasy. She's not a Sony fangirl, she's a SquareEnix fangirl. She bought a GBASP just for Kingdom Hearts. But when she bought a PSP, I was, well, upset. She didn't look into it at all. Someone told her about reading mangas on it, and she bought it without a 2nd thought. I asked her what she knew about it, she said "it's plays movies and music and games, and you can put mangas on it". I told her to look into the capabilities closer and that she should be more responsible with making large purchases, but that I wasn't going to not let her have it or anything, it's her money, she can do whatever she wants.
Shoot 2 weeks ahead. I pretty much just avoided the PSP subject with her, and let her do what she wanted. Then she comes up to me one day and says, "well, you should be happy." "Why?" "I sold my PSP back." "Really? Why?" "Those movies were so expensive! And there aren't any games on it at all worth playing. The manga reading wasn't as cool as I thought'd it be either. I might get it again if the price comes down and they make a good Final Fantasy game, but right now it's just not worth it." I just smiled.

The point of that was NOT to say that I think the PSP stinks, because my opinion is a bit biased and wouldn't really matter. I'm just warning people that literally everyone I know who has gotten a PSP has regretted it, and a few have even returned theirs.

Some random peoples opinions on the PSP

They would be valid opinions but they're not because two of them were misinformed about the product, i mean if you dont know what your buying, your obviously going to have troubles with the purchase.
The first guy was a plain idiot.

Lol, nice stuff. Reading manga? That seems like a waste...

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: PSP Questions

Bit of a waste spending $250/£180, all right!

I'm just not sure about the PSP. On the one hand, I want it, and on the other side I'm being told 'not to buy it, not to buy it' by my conscience. I will probably get it in the end, but I'm waiting from a non-fanboy perspective of the PSP, perhaps from Chuddy or Biggy.

Just wait. My friends waited for the DS and they're happy because now it has more games. Wait for more PSP games.

RE: Some random peoples opinions on the PSP

Yeah, I don't have much option in doing that, though. The casual gamers have grabbed all the PSPes off the shelf, and I don't think they'll be any new ones for a long time.

Thing is though, I'm worried about Lumines and the other game I want, Metal Gear Acid (yes, I do realise it sucks) may be 'extinct' by then, and much harder to find. It may only be a year before I get the PSP, but a years a long time in gaming.

Don't worry. It won't be a week before they're readily available.

RE: Some random peoples opinions on the PSP

Your right. A friend went in asking how long it would take to get a PSP, and the reply was 'March'. Probably talking rubbish though.

The thing is though, being sold-out doesn't have to mean that the PSP has been extremely popular. Maybe Sony only released 10 PSP's for launch, maybe they shipped 1,000,000. We'll have to wait for the figures in terms of popularity and it will be interesting.

Nintendogs Sells A Quarter Million

True, partly. I think demand is hugely high, but the amount of units shipped out were low.
