I still can't find the official site saying that it won't work. Dear god Bignds, you really need to post links or proof some of these times. I did find these interesting things though.

As the version of Opera for the Nintendo DS Lite is the same as the desktop version it will be able to handle gmail/calendar etc. Version 9.0 of the desktop version is the best so far for these ajaxy web sites, lets hope that they push out the latest and greatest release when they ship the cartridges in July.

I also beleive I found the IGN article you refer to, since it wasn't listed under the gamepage.

Now for the bad. The browser won't be capable of displaying Flash and PDF, nor will it support video and sound. While you can save bookmarks to your favorite pages, you cannot save images or other elements of pages.

Research is good. End of story. Stop fighting.
While Flash and video and sound would be great, all I really want it for is so I can communicate with my online friends easily when I'm AFK, TDS plays a big part (like at least 90% of all my web browsing).
